About Us
Much of the content on this website is inspired by the work of permaculture co-originator David Holmgren. The site was conceived and designed by Richard Telford with the technical expertise of Jenneke Kylstra.

David Holmgren
Co-originator of the permaculture concept |
David Holmgren is best known as the co-originator
with Bill Mollison of the permaculture concept following the publication
of ‘Permaculture One’ in 1978. Since then he has written several
more books, developed three properties using permaculture principles,
conducted workshops and courses in Australia, New Zealand, Europe,
Japan and North America and now in Latin America.
Within the growing and international permaculture movement, David is respected for
his commitment to presenting permaculture ideas through practical
projects and teaching by personal example, that a sustainable lifestyle
is a realistic, attractive and powerful alternative to dependant
consumerism. David is passionate about the philosophical and conceptual
foundations for sustainability which are highlighted in his book,
Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability, which inspired this site.

Richard Telford
Graphic Artist and Permaculture Designer |
Richard completed his Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) in 1999 and was inspired to meet David Holmgren.
Richard’s background in advertising has been put to good use, developing the principle icons for David’s book ‘Permaculture:
Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability’ which has developed into this website. Other publications have followed, including Holmgren’s eBooks and the ‘Principles Teaching Kit’.
Since developing this site he has also designed the Permaculture Calendar and Permaculture Diary. He also writes a blog entitled Redesigning a home in the suburbs exploring the application of the design principles.
Richard now lives at ‘Commonground’, an intentional community near Seymour, Australia which hosts the Central Victoria PDC with tutors including David Holmgren.
